Summer…its our favorite season. Especially since I’ve been working for myself and can now really enjoy it as well! It can be challenging to find things to keep your kids busy every day in the summer, especially without spending a ton of money. If you live in NYC, you know that it seems every time you leave the house money just seems to disappear. Are you looking for free or low cost activities around NYC ? I set out last week to see what we could do every day, have fun, and not spend a ton. I packed lunches and snacks for the most part, which is also much healthier. We had a great week!
Check out some of these ideas for free or low cost activities around NYC
1) Monday: Union Square Park Playground
This playground is located at 16th street and Union Square and is great for all ages. Older kids will love the climbing structures. The little ones have a side just for them. There is also a sprinkler-something we definitely look for in a park. The only downside of this playground is that the structures are mostly metal and can get extremely hot if its a hot day.
Cost: FREE
2) Tuesday: Brooklyn Bridge Park Pop up Pool.
If you haven’t been to the Pop up Pool in Brooklyn Bridge Park, you must go! In addition to the large, clean pool there is a “beach” area where the kids can play in the sand and you can chill on a beach chair, with a cocktail if you wish.
Wristbands are given out 30 minutes prior to the next session time and are first come, first-served.
Cost: FREE
3) Wednesday:Prospect Park Zoo
To be honest, I’m not a huge zoo fan in general. But, my daughter is. Prospect Park Zoo can be done in a couple of hours, there is a lot to see, and they have different activities for kids daily. And it’s easily accessible by train.
Costs:
Admission: $13 for 1 child and 1 Adult
Ice Cream: $2.00
4) Thursday: Afternoon Play date
5) Friday: Hudson River Park Pier 25.
This was our first time at Pier 25 and we will definitely be making this a regular destination! The park is amazing! Plenty of swings for both babies and big kids, a climbing wall and structures, a sandbox, and an awesome water play area. There is also an 18 whole Mini golf course! All with incredible views.
Mini Golf: $11 for 1 child and 1 Adult
Ice Cream: $3.00
Total Spent ALL WEEK….$29!
Would love to hear what you think!
